Drug and Alcohol Detox in Wildomar, California
The first few days are the hardest, and the ones most people cannot get through alone. Detox at Dunn Recovery happens in a six-bed house, with staff on site around the clock and the same team who will be here afterwards.

What Detox Is
Detox is the period while the body clears a substance it has become dependent on, and settles without it.
It is short. For most substances it is a matter of days rather than weeks. It is also the stage people are most frightened of, and the one most likely to end with someone giving up and going back — usually not because they lack resolve, but because withdrawal at home is miserable and the substance is in the next room.
Detox on its own is not treatment. It clears the body; it does not change anything about why the using started. That is what residential treatment is for, and at Dunn Recovery it happens in the same house, with the same people, as soon as detox is behind you.
Dunn Recovery is licensed for detox and residential treatment by the California Department of Health Care Services, licence 330221AP, and accredited by The Joint Commission.Â
What withdrawal is like
It differs a great deal depending on what the body has become dependent on. Some withdrawals are dangerous. Others are not dangerous but are very hard to sit through.
Alcohol
Alcohol withdrawal is one of the few that can be life-threatening without supervision. Symptoms usually begin within hours of the last drink and peak over the first two to three days.
Heroin & Opioids
Opioid withdrawal is rarely life-threatening but is genuinely hard to sit through. It is the one people most often give up on at home, which is why doing it somewhere else helps.
Benzodiazepines
Benzodiazepine withdrawal can also be serious and usually needs a gradual reduction rather than a sudden stop. Stopping abruptly after long-term use is not safe.
Cocaine
Cocaine withdrawal is less physical and more emotional — exhaustion, low mood, strong cravings. The risk is relapse rather than physical harm.
Methamphetamine
Meth withdrawal brings heavy fatigue, long sleep, low mood and powerful cravings, often lasting longer than people expect.
- Alcohol and benzodiazepines are the ones not to attempt alone Withdrawal from either can be serious, and in some cases life-threatening. If you have been drinking heavily every day, or taking benzodiazepines for a long time, do not stop suddenly on your own. Call us, call your doctor, or go to an emergency room — but speak to somebody first.
What detox here involves
The first call
We ask what has been going on, how long, and how much. It takes about twenty minutes and nothing is committed to.
Arriving
A private intake conversation before anything else, so the plan for your first few days fits your situation.
Staff on site
Someone is here around the clock, including through the nights, which are usually the hardest part.
Food and fluids
Meals are prepared in the house. Eating properly again is one of the first things that starts to help.
Rest
Most people arrive exhausted. Sleeping a great deal in the first days is normal and is not time wasted.
Moving on
When detox is done you stay where you are and continue into residential treatment. No transfer, no second intake.
Detox in a house, not a ward
Most detox happens in facilities built around thirty or more beds. Dunn Recovery has six, in a residential home.
6
The most people in the house at once. Nobody is a number on a board.
1
One location. Detox and residential treatment are in the same building.
24/7
Staff on site around the clock, and the phone answered at any hour.
The practical difference is that somebody notices. In a large facility a difficult night can pass without anyone registering it until the morning handover. In a house with six people, it does not.
What happens when detox ends
Detox is stage one of two. Leaving after it, without doing the rest, is the most common way people end up starting again.
At Dunn Recovery you continue into residential treatment in the same house. Individual counselling, small group sessions, meals together and a daily routine — and the work of understanding what sat underneath the using in the first place.
Before you leave, we build a plan with you for afterwards: ongoing therapy, support meetings, and who to call on a hard day. You leave with it written down.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does detox take?
For most substances it is a matter of days rather than weeks. How long depends on the substance, how long it has been used and how much. We will give you a realistic range on the first call once we understand the situation.
Can I detox at home?
For some substances people do. For alcohol and benzodiazepines it can be dangerous, and in some cases life-threatening. Whatever you decide, speak to a doctor or call us before stopping suddenly on your own.
What does withdrawal feel like?
It varies by substance. Broadly: alcohol and benzodiazepines can bring shaking, sweating, agitation and in serious cases seizures. Opioid withdrawal is intense but rarely dangerous. Stimulant withdrawal is more about exhaustion, low mood and cravings than physical symptoms.
Is detox the same as treatment?
No. Detox clears the body. It does not address why the using started, which is what residential treatment is for. Leaving after detox alone is the most common way people end up back where they started.
Do I have to stay for residential treatment afterwards?
No, it is your decision. But we will be honest with you about what detox alone tends to achieve, and residential treatment here happens in the same house with the same people.
What substances do you detox from?
Alcohol, opioids including heroin and fentanyl, benzodiazepines, cocaine and methamphetamine.
How many people are in the house?
Six. That is the whole facility, and it is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation.
Can I come in today?
Often, when it is clinically appropriate and a bed is free. Because we are small, the person answering the phone knows immediately what is available.
Is Dunn Recovery licensed for detox?
Yes. We are licensed for detox and residential treatment by the California Department of Health Care Services under licence 330221AP, valid through 31 July 2028, and accredited by The Joint Commission.
