Treatment at Dunn Recovery
Most treatment centres are built to hold between thirty and a hundred people. Dunn Recovery holds six.
That number shapes everything else. Treatment plans are written for the person in front of us rather than drawn from a standard curriculum. Group sessions are small enough that nobody sits at the back. The staff on shift know what kind of week you have had without reading it off a chart.
We treat men and women, and we treat the whole picture — the substance, what sits underneath it, and the relationships it has affected. The programs on this page are not separate products. They are the parts of one stay, drawn on as each person needs them.
How treatment progresses
Most people move through all three stages. How long each takes depends on the substance, the history and the person.
Stage 1: Detox
The body clears the substance. Staff are on site around the clock, and you are in a house rather than a ward.
DAYS, NOT WEEKS
Stage 2: Residential Treatment
You live at the house. Individual sessions, group work, structure to the day, and the work of understanding why.
THE LONGEST STAGE
Stage 3: Planning what comes next
Before you leave, we build the plan for afterwards with you — ongoing therapy, meetings, and who to call on a hard day.
BEFORE DISCHARGE
Our two levels of care
Detox
Detox is the part most people are most frightened of, and the part that is genuinely dangerous to attempt alone — particularly with alcohol and benzodiazepines, where withdrawal can be serious.
It is also shorter than most people expect. For most substances it is a matter of days. What makes it bearable is not being alone with it, and not being somewhere that feels like a hospital.
At Dunn Recovery detox happens in the same house where you will stay afterwards. There is no transfer, no second intake, and no settling in twice.
WHAT THIS INVOLVES
- Staff on site around the clock
- A private intake conversation before anything else
- Rest, food and fluids as the body settles
- Daily check-ins on how you are doing
- Moves straight into residential treatment in the same house
Residential treatment
Residential treatment is where the work happens. You live at the house, and recovery becomes the day’s work rather than something fitted around everything else.
Days have a shape: individual sessions, group work, meals together, time to think. The structure matters as much as the content — most people arrive from a life that had lost its shape entirely.
Because there are six beds, the people working with you know your name, your situation and your history without checking a file. That is the difference this size makes.
WHAT THIS INVOLVES
- Living at the house for the length of your stay
- One-to-one sessions with your counsellor
- Small group work — five others, not twenty-five
- Meals prepared in the house and eaten together
- Family involvement, with your written consent
- A written plan for after you leave
Specialized Programs
Addiction rarely arrives on its own. These are the areas we work in alongside detox and residential treatment, drawn on according to what each person needs.
Alcohol is the substance we see most often, and the one people most often try to stop alone. Withdrawal can be serious, which is why it belongs in a supervised setting. Treatment runs from detox through residential care without changing place or team.
Drug Addiction Treatment
Opioids, stimulants, benzodiazepines and prescription medication. Each has a different withdrawal and a different pull afterwards, and the treatment plan is built around which one you are actually dealing with.
For many people the substance sits on top of depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder or PTSD. Treating one and ignoring the other rarely holds. Both are taken into account in the plan from the start, rather than one being left for later.
When both partners are using, each can make it harder for the other to stop. Partners can be admitted together and supported alongside each other, where that is the right call clinically for both people. We will talk it through honestly before anyone commits.
A great deal of substance use began as a way to live with something that happened. Our approach assumes that may be true and works accordingly — at the pace the person sets, not on a schedule.
Addiction reshapes a family long before anyone calls it that. With the client’s written consent, families are brought into the work — to understand what is happening, and to find a way of helping that does not make things harder.
The weeks after treatment are the ones that decide things. Before you leave we work out the plan together — ongoing therapy, support meetings, what to do on a bad day and who to ring. You leave with it written down.
Help getting someone in
Many of our calls come from a parent, a partner or a sibling rather than the person using. We will talk you through what is realistic, what tends to work, and what to say — whether or not anyone ends up here.
Therapies We Use
These are the methods used in individual and group sessions during a stay. Which ones are used, and how much, depends on the person.
Looking at the thoughts that come before the drink or the drug, and learning to catch them earlier.
Skills for sitting with distress, managing strong emotion, and handling the relationships that set it off.
Detox and residential care for alcohol use disorder, the most common reason people come to Dunn Recovery.
A structured method for working with traumatic memory, used where trauma is part of the picture.
Group Therapy
Small groups. Hearing your own situation described by someone else is often the thing that lands.
Individual Counselling
One-to-one sessions with the same counsellor throughout your stay, not a rotating cast.
Detox by substance
Withdrawal is different depending on what the body has become dependent on. These pages explain what to expect from each.

Paying for Treatment
Dunn Recovery is out of network with all insurance providers
We work with most PPO plans on an out-of-network basis. We will check your benefits for free, by phone, and tell you what your plan is likely to cover before you commit to anything.
Payment plans are available. Please do not send policy numbers or medical details through a web form — call us and we will take them over the phone.
Frequently Asked Questions
What programs does Dunn Recovery provide?
Detox and residential treatment, with specialised work in alcohol and drug addiction, dual diagnosis, couples treatment, trauma and family support. All of it happens in one house in Wildomar.
How long does treatment take?
Detox is usually a matter of days. Residential treatment is longer and depends on the person. We will give you a realistic answer on the first call rather than a number that sounds reassuring.
What levels of care are you licensed for?
Detox and residential treatment, under California Department of Health Care Services licence 330221AP. If you need a level of care we do not provide, we will tell you on the first call and help you find it.
How many people are in treatment at once?
Six. That is the whole house, and it is a deliberate choice rather than a limitation.
Can someone start the same day?
Often, when it is clinically appropriate and a bed is free. Because we are small, the person answering the phone knows immediately what is available.
Can couples attend together?
Yes, where it is the right call clinically for both people. Call and we will talk through whether it suits your situation.
Is Dunn Recovery in network with my insurance?
No. We are out of network with all carriers. We work with most PPO plans on an out-of-network basis and will check your benefits at no cost.
Where are you located?
22650 Lost Road, Wildomar, California 92595, in Riverside County. It is our only location.
Call and we will tell you what we can do
Someone answers 24 hours a day. The first call is a conversation, not a sales pitch — if we are not the right place, we will say so.
